Books Unbanned
Both the Brooklyn Pubilc Library and the Seattle Public Library have a program called Books Unbanned that supplies e-Library cards to teens (13-26) living in the US.
Started by Brooklyn Public Library, Books Unbanned is an initiative in response to an increasingly coordinated and effective effort to remove books tackling a wide range of topics from library shelves. We are the second library to join this initiative and make our collection available to teens and young adults facing book bans, censorship and political challenges in their local school and public libraries. Explore below to learn more about Books Unbanned, intellectual freedom and how you can fight for the rights of teens nationwide to read what they like, discover themselves and form their own opinions.

Indiebound.org - Find any book at your local indie bookstores with Indiebound’s search features. They also partner with Bookshop.org to list indie bookstores’ Bookshop.org stores.

The Internet Archive - A non-profit with the goal of preserving content from webpages to videos, radio, and more. They are home of the Wayback Machine, Archive-It and many other important programs.
Hoopla - Another library app that allows you to borrow all sorts of media with just your library card!
The Palace Marketplace - A Non-profit library app providing access to ebooks, including a huge number of indie books!
Little Free Library - is an organization dedicated to helping create tiny libraries in communities across the US. All books (and sometimes other items like pantry staples or pet toys) are provided by the community and upkept by the steward. They have an interactive map so you can find one in your neighborhood.
Scribd - Offers a subscription service for access to ebooks, magazines, podcasts & much more! If you’re looking for a Kindle Unlimited replacement, give it a try.
The Brooklyn Public Library - Teens can sign up for an e-card through the Brooklyn Public Library for free without being a New York resident. Email BooksUnbanned@bklynlibrary.org to apply.

Save the Cat Beat Sheet & Story Tracker
Organize your novel or writing project in the style of Save the Cat. As a planser I don’t outline every scene, but this tracking sheet has helped me keep track of ideas and map out important events as I write. This Google Sheet also includes tabs for tracking things like word count, characters, timelines, and more!
The spreadsheet has tabs setup for 80k or 100k word projects, but can easily be adjusted for any size project. Make it your own and make it work for your writing style.

My Favorite Website Resources for Writing
University of Pittsburg’s Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts - This archive lists hundreds of different folklore and mythologies from around the world. It’s my go to for researching fairytales and folklore.
Behind the Name - This is a name archive that allows various different ways to search and browse names, including by language, meaning, origin, gender, letter and more.
Behind the Surname - Behind the Name’s sister site for last names.
Fantasy Name Generator - If I’m looking for a name with a bit more fantasy flair, I’ll sometimes browse through this site. It can be really useful if you’re stuck on place names.
Hello Future Me - Youtuber Timothy Hickson creates videos on worldbuilding, character development and more. He even has a book series on worldbuilding.
Thesaurus.com - When my brain just cannot think of the word I need but can come up with a synonym, I look it up.

TTRPG Consent Checklist
Consent checklists are becoming an important part of tabletop gaming for many players and storytellers. Various game companies and storytellers have created consent checklists for storytellers and players to use in their games. It can be a very useful tool to help avoid conflicts and players wanting to leave a game due to the content. I adapted Gehenna Gaming’s Tabletop RPG Consent Checklist.
A consent checklist is included in all 2nd Edition releases of the Chronicle Diary, but you can also download a PDF copy below.
Important Reminders about Consent Checklists:
• The goal of a consent checklist is so all players can be engaged and have fun during the chronicle
• The default answer is No
• Each player has their own boundaries and experiences
• Explanations and reasons are not required and should not be expected
• If you don’t want to discuss your answers with the group, speak with your DM/GM privately
• No one should be bullied or influenced into changing their answer
• Consent can change at any time, even during a session
• Any player can leave an uncomfortable situation
• Be mindful of elements in your character’s past or backstory that may be triggers for your fellow players
• Check in with your DM/GM and fellow players occasionally, or after a particularly emotional session, to see if anything has changed
This PDF is free and shareable. This Consent Checklist can be reproduced and adapted for personal use. It cannot be reproduced for profit or sale.
